On Friday 22 February 2019, Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence organised a Mini Symposium for Kinran Senri High School students.
　The event, which was held at Kinran Senri High School, consisted of three lectures and was attended by 135 students. 　First, Mr. Errol LEVY (Counsellor of Political Section at the Delegation of the European Union to Japan) in his lecture "The Quest for Human Rights: A European Union Perspective" gave an overview of the EU and explained how the EU protects fundamental rights within the EU and how it promotes human rights worldwide. Next, Professor Ken-ichi YOSHIDA (Graduate School of Science, Technology and Innovation, Kobe University) in his lecture "I study 'Genome' that is blueprint of life" outlined his study path towards his research of genome and shared insights from his international research conducted with European, American and Australian researchers. Finally, Professor Kazunari SAKAI (Graduate School of Intercultural Studies, Kobe University) explained in detail the European migration policy in his lecture "Migration Issues in the EU: Difficulty in Policy Harmonisation and Quest for Security".
　Prior to the symposium, students had attended an EU-related lecture given by the School Director, Mr. Ken TSUJIMOTO. Thanks to such preparations in advance and the school's strong emphasis on the English education, students actively listened to the lectures and raised many relevant questions in English during the Q&A sessions.
　Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence of Kobe University will continue to regularly organise mini symposia for high school students.
