EU lecture for high school teachers was held on 25 January 2019

On Friday 25 January 2019, Kobe University's Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence organised a lecture for high school teachers entitled "Possibilities of a Pluralistic Approach towards Languages and Culture in the context of raising Global Human Resources: With reference to Europe".
Associate Professor Tsutomu Hashida (Center for International Education, Kobe University) first compared the American and European views of globally competent human resources. He pointed out that Europe has traditionally put an emphasis on plurilingualism and pluriculturalism. Then the speaker illustrated that Japan has adopted harmonized didactic approach between the American market-driven approach and the European society-driven approach. Finally, he discussed how pluralistic approach towards languages and culture can help Japanese educators to raise global human resources. During the Q&A participants raised several questions, for example about the design thinking which was mentioned in the lecture.
The lecture, which was attended by 15 high school teachers from Hyogo prefecture, took place in the context of the Annual Meeting for English Subcommittee, Educational Research Group of Senior High Schools in Hyogo Prefecture.
Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence of Kobe University will continue to organise lectures for high school teachers, as high school teachers will then transmit their updated knowledge on the EU to their students.
