On 19 June 2019, EU Debate Student Club was held in Room 403 of Academia Hall for Social Sciences at Rokkodai campus of Kobe University.
　11 participants first checked data on international student mobility and noted that compared to Europe, Japan has a relatively low and decreasing number of students studying abroad. Participants then started discussing the positive impact of study abroad, such as acquiring skills to cope with unexpected challenges. It was mentioned that Japanese students often seem to have difficulty in expressing their personal opinions, however, as a participating professor from a Scottish university pointed out, teachers in Europe are well-trained to help students with any problem they might face. In second half of the debate, some reasons behind a low number of Japanese students abroad were discussed, such as missing out on the fixed schedule of job-hunting in Japan and the fact that some Japanese companies may not actively seek students with overseas study experience.
　Overall, this was a very active and enjoyable debate, which enabled students to get useful tips from the two participating professors for study abroad.
