On 14 December 2016, EU Debate Student Club was held in Room 403 of Frontier Building in Rokkodai campus of Kobe University.
After a brief fact-checking on 24 official EU languages in current use, 5 participants held an active, open debate on some arguments why English is very likely to remain the official EU language even after Brexit (mainly owing to its world-wide importance and the need to avoid extra costs of translations) and counter-arguments.
Participants also had some time to reflect on possible alternatives to English (for instance, whether German or French could become dominant working languages in the EU) and the effect this would have on Japan.
As this became 40th time to hold the EU Debate Club (since the EUIJ-Kansai had begun this activity in May 2011), students also enjoyed a special EU Quiz.
