On 19 April 2017, EU Debate Club was held in Common Room (606) of Frontier Building at Rokkodai campus of Kobe University.
6 participants first discussed some reasons behind the rise of nationalism and populism in the EU, namely the economic crisis, decreased trust in the EU, and ongoing refugee crisis. Influence of media and the relations between bigger and smaller EU Members were also discussed.
Participating students from South European countries gave some interesting perspectives by referring to the situation in their countries. Even though the anti-EU party of Geert Wilders did not win in the recent Dutch elections, participants argued that the result probably should not be interpreted as a decline of populism in the EU.

EU Debate Club continues to be a very effective way to get students involved in a debate where they can express their own ideas about current EU-related topics.
