On 17 January 2018, EU Debate Club was held in Common Room (606) of Frontier Building at Rokkodai campus of Kobe University.
8 participants first checked the data on a high percentage of Europeans who identify themselves as EU citizens, rather than referring to their nationality only.
The debate then focused on defining the concept of solidarity in the EU context and participants listed various areas in which EU states need to demonstrate more solidarity (for instance, fiscal policy, energy cooperation, strengthened security etc.). Referring to their EU-related studies and research, participants also discussed the measures through which the feeling of being a European citizen could be strengthened in the current EU. At the end participants also familiarized themselves with five possible scenarios for the EU by 2025, as described by the European Commission's recent White Paper.

EU Debate Club is designed to familiarise students with the variety of opinions on the EU-related topics and we will continue to select important and relevant debate topics.
