神戸大学 大学教育推進機構 国際コミュニケーションセンター（英語名：School of Languages and Communication = SOLAC）は，2003年に本学に設置されて以来、全学の外国語教育に関する研究及び企画・立案を行う組織です。神戸大学の学士課程・大学院課程における外国語教育の充実と、大学教育推進本部が企画・立案する全学教育を一体的に推進するための中心的な役割を果たしています。

神戸大学言語・コミュニケーション教育センター（SOLAC）は、外国語教育の質の向上に取り組み、優れた教育を支援することを使命としています。当センターは、高度で多様な外国語運用能力の育成を目指した、先進的な外国語教育カリキュラムの開発に中心的な役割を果たしています。また、授業外での学生の自主的な外国語学習を支援するためのシステムの設計・運用にも積極的に取り組んでいます。

その一環として、4年間を通じた一貫性のあるカリキュラムの構築を提案・実施しており、高度な外国語科目や外国語セミナーの導入などを通じて、学生にとってより豊かな学習体験を提供しています。

これまでにも、SOLACは文部科学省の支援を受けて、数々の革新的な外国語教育プログラムを立ち上げてきました。
その一例が、2005年度の現代GP「PEP」プロジェクトであり、これは学生の外国語によるプレゼンテーション能力の向上を目的としたものです。
また、2012年度には、英語を通じて批判的思考力を養うためのGECプログラムも実施しました。

さらに、大学全体で推進されているアクティブ・ラーニング環境の整備の一環として、従来のCALL教室をアクティブ＆インタラクティブラーニング・ラボへと刷新しました。
これにより、学生の主体的な参加を促進する学習空間を実現しています。 加えて、学内の外国語教員に対しても、ピア・レビュー制度や、SOLACが独自に作成した教育支援教材の提供を通じて、継続的なサポートを行っています。

私たちのこれらの取り組みが、外国語を自在に使いこなし、国内外で真に活躍できる人材の育成に貢献することを願っております。


Message from Tim Greer, Dean of SOLAC

At the School of Languages and Communication (SOLAC), Kobe University, we are committed to supporting excellence in foreign language education. Our center plays an integral role in the development of a robust and forward-looking foreign language curriculum aimed at cultivating advanced and diverse language skills. We are also actively engaged in the design and operation of systems that promote autonomous language learning outside the classroom.

A key initiative has been the proposal and implementation of a comprehensive four-year curriculum. This includes the introduction of advanced courses and foreign language seminars, offering students a coherent and enriched learning experience throughout their undergraduate studies.

Over the years, SOLAC has launched a number of innovative, MEXT-funded programs. These include the 2005 Gendai GP "PEP" project, which focused on enhancing students’ presentation skills in foreign languages, and a 2012 program aimed at developing critical thinking skills through English.

In alignment with the university-wide move to enhance active learning environments, we have transformed our traditional CALL classrooms into state-of-the-art Active and Interactive Learning Labs. These spaces are designed to facilitate greater student engagement and participation. Furthermore, we support Kobe University's language instructors through a peer review program and by providing a unique collection of instructional resources tailored for foreign language teaching.

Through these ongoing efforts, we aim to foster the development of individuals who can effectively use foreign languages and thrive in global and domestic contexts.
