Nineteen students, including the first year undergraduates who will start the KUPES programme this April, participated in the Academic English Intensive Course that was held at the Frontier Hall for Social Sciences of Kobe Univ. from 18th to 22nd of February.

The academic English course was taught by four native English instructors who have taught English at Japanese universities. One of the aims of the course was to acquire academic English skills which are necessary for the KUPES courses taught in English and for programmes to be offered in partner universities where the students will study as exchange students. Another was to prepare for IELTS exam which is required for the application of their study abroad.

Positive feedback was heard from the students, such as: “It was a great opportunity to learn from native English teachers for such long time”, ”I started to think in English during the course and English came out of my mouth in daily life”, and “It was a precious experience to have been taught by native English instructors in small groups” Thus, the English course enhanced students’ motivation to learn as a KUPES student from the new academic year.
