Purpose of framework and image of global human resources to be developed

On the basis of the spirit of Kobe University’s education philosophy of “Integrity, Freedom, and Cooperation”, the purpose of this project is to develop “Global human resources” equipped with high level of expertise and outstanding language skills and who can face various problems of global scale in the modern society and who can exert a “problem-discovery type of leadership” that facilitate sustainable development of international society.

Overview of framework

In line with the goals of education set by Kobe University, i.e. “Education of whole person”, ”Education to promote originality”, ”Education to promote international awareness”, and “Education to promote expertise”, six humanities and social science related faculties (Faculty of Intercultural Studies, Faculty of Letters, Faculty of Human Development, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Economics, and School of Business Administration) and two graduate school (Graduate School of Humanities and Graduate School of Economics) cooperate beyond their expertise through various education programs for developing “Global human resources” who can practice “Problem identification oriented leadership” equipped with deep knowledge, high technical skills, global outlook, and exceptional communication skills.

Setting of goals

Goals to be achieved in this framework

The following three goals are set in this framework.

  1. Setting of the standards on foreign language skills at time of graduation and the number of students that meet the standers
  2. “The number of students who have studied abroad to acquire credits” at time of graduation
  3. Setting of the qualitative measurement index and the achievement level of the actual skills that a student should achieve by time of graduation and the numerical goal of students who will actually achieve them

Specific goals for enhancing internationalization acceptance aimed by Kobe University

Following are the seven specific goals set for international acceptance.

  1. The number of Japanese students studied abroad and its proportion to the student body
  2. The number of foreign students and its proportion to the student body
  3. Percentage of classes conducted in a foreign language (Classes in foreign language / total number of classes)
  4. Proportion of foreign faculty members
  5. Proportion of faculty members with a PhD
  6. Number of students per faculty member
  7. Proportion of office staff members who meet a certain foreign language skills standard (TOEIC 800 etc.)
