Internationalization of the Curriculum

Actions aimed at elevating the international viability of our educational program

For pursuing and promoting global education, “Office for the Promotion of Global Education” has been established in the “Institute for Promotion of Higher Education”, responsible for education and learning management of the entire university. By taking the following initiatives for enhancing international acceptance in the undergraduate curriculum, unit system has been put in place for promoting active learning among the students.

  1. Enrich course offerings and extend the completion period for students
  2. Systematize the curriculum
  3. Introduce grade point average (GPA) system and strengthen assessments
  4. Improve the educational environment to encourage autonomous learning by students
  5. Promote active learning

Strategically disseminate information on education in Japan and overseas

We will clearly define the image of global human resources Kobe University wants to develop and skills to be acquired by them. In addition, we will actively publish the support situation etc. for promoting overseas education.

Besides, in addition to introducing the initiatives pertaining to globalization promotion in the overseas university campuses, for receiving exceptional students from overseas, we will strive to disseminate information in foreign languages. Kobe University will promote further globalization as “Global Hub Campus”.

Globalize the administrative framework

For enhancing the skills of administrative staff for dealing with globalization, we will conduct language training and international staff training in Japan and overseas for developing practical skills. By providing robust support for overseas education of students and activities in Japan of foreign teaching faculty, we will promote globalization of the education environment.

Efforts to Cultivate Global Human Resources

At Kobe University, we have taken the following initiatives for developing dynamic intercultural and Japanese culture understanding, exceptional foreign language skills, tremendous challenging spirit and independence.

An appreciation and understanding of cultural diversity, and respect for diverse values

Establish “Global Liberal Studies Program” in Common Education Courses.

Outstanding communication skills in foreign languages

We have created a new Global English Course (GEC) for strengthening learning and guidance of academic writing.

A global educational program that foster expertise

In specialized subject, setup “Specialized Global Education Subject” and expand the classes conducted in a foreign language such as English.

Improvement of Foreign Language Competencies

Proper assessment in university entrance examinations of foreign language abilities and study-abroad experience gained at the middle and high school stages

The Faculty of Intercultural Studies introduces a recommendation entrance examination using score of TOEFL-iBT from an entrance examination in 2016.

Effective language instruction and educational frameworks

We will evaluate improvement in Language skills through external English language examinations such as TOEIC, and we will form classes according to the level of proficiency. In writing research papers in a foreign language, foreign teaching faculty of international communication center will provide individualized guidance. Besides, we will increase the number of classes conducted in English in specialized subjects, and we will promote overseas education.

Support System to Promote Study Abroad

We will conduct various activities such as offering accurate information related to overseas education starting from open campus, expanding double degree program system, and introducing global English language course by foreign teaching faculty of international communication center (special English language course, short-term overseas special English language training).

Information and assistance for students while they study abroad and after their return to Japan

We will continuously track the status of learning during overseas education and life of students in foreign countries. Besides, after they return to Japan, we will provide appropriate mental healthcare and learning management support in the appropriate manner to ensure that they do not face any problems in learning and education.
