School Introduction
Kobe University’s School of Languages and Communication (SOLAC), housed under the umbrella of the Institute for the Promotion of Higher Education, is a school responsible for research, as well as projects and planning related to foreign language education. As a constituent department of the Institute for the Promotion of Higher Education, our department is responsible for university-wide educational reform and strengthening educational management systems. Concurrently, we have established courses in foreign language education theory, while providing guidance in the field of foreign language research.

Educational Activities
While administering general foreign language courses across our institution, SOLAC contributes to foreign language course curriculum development. As one section of the Graduate School of Intercultural Studies, our faculty provides postgraduate programs related to applied linguistics and foreign language education. In addition, in order to promote foreign language education outside of the classroom, we serve in a variety of supportive activities, such as seminars.

We conduct research in the fields of foreign language curriculum development, implementation and assessment under the primary themes of “Promoting international collaboration”, “Promoting inter-disciplinary collaboration”, “Developing assessment measures” and “In-house Journal (Kiyo) publication”.
